Application Process and Mode of Admission
The admission process will follow two different modes: through the Entrance Examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and through the JNU Research Entrance Test (JNURET), which is conducted by the university itself. For some programmes, candidates may also be selected based on their UGC-NET JRF or equivalent fellowships, subject to fulfilling departmental criteria.
Candidates must visit the JNU official website to access the application form. All applications are to be submitted online. No printed form will be accepted. The portal provides detailed instructions, and applicants are advised to fill the form only after ensuring they meet the eligibility conditions specific to their chosen programme.

Who Can Apply?
The minimum eligibility for admission to a Ph.D. programme is a Master’s degree in the relevant field with a required percentage or equivalent grade. Most programmes require a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent CGPA, while a relaxation of 5% is provided for SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), and PwD candidates as per Government of India norms.
Applicants who have qualified UGC-NET/JRF, CSIR-NET, GATE, or equivalent examinations may be eligible for direct admission or may be exempted from the written test, depending on the department’s specific criteria. Those applying under this category must submit relevant documents and proof of qualification at the time of application.

Admission Through JNU Entrance Exam
For candidates applying through the JNU Entrance Examination (JNUEE), the test will consist of a written paper followed by an interview. The written test will assess the candidate’s knowledge of the subject, research aptitude, and ability to interpret and analyze academic content. Those who qualify in the written exam will be invited for a viva-voce.
Final selection will be based on the combined performance in the written test and interview. For direct admission candidates (JRF, GATE holders), selection is usually based on academic record and interview performance, as per departmental rules.
