Guidelines for Candidates – Here are some guidelines for uploading your photo when filling out an online application:

Make sure the photo is not more than 10 days old from when you start the application.

Write your name and the date the photo was taken clearly on the photo.

Your face should take up about three-quarters of the space in the photo.

You need to look the same as in your photo during every stage of the examination process – like the Preliminary, Main (Written), and Interview/Personality Test. For example, if you have a beard in your photo, you should have the same beard during all the tests. The same goes for glasses, mustaches, etc.

Arrive at the examination venue at least 30 minutes before each session starts. Latecomers won’t be allowed in under any circumstances.

UPSC Prelims Examination – The Union Public Service Commission will conduct a preliminary examination on May 26, 2024, for recruiting candidates to various government services and posts. This exam follows the rules set by the Department of Personnel & Training, as published in the Gazette of India on February 14, 2024. It’s crucial for all candidates to thoroughly read the Civil Services Examination 2024 Rules, including all appendices and annexures, along with this examination notice. This will help them understand the current rules and regulations, as there may have been changes since the last exam.

The Civil Services Examination has two main parts. First, there’s the Preliminary Examination, which is multiple-choice and helps select candidates for the Main Examination. Then, there’s the Main Examination, which includes written tests and interviews. Right now, applications are open for the Preliminary Examination only.

If you pass the Preliminary Examination, you’ll need to apply again for the Main Examination. You’ll have to fill out an online Detailed Application Form and submit scanned documents like your birth certificate, category proof (like SC/ST/OBC/EWS), and educational qualifications. Make sure you don’t miss the deadline for submitting these documents, or your application might be canceled.

After passing the Main Examination, you’ll need to indicate your preferences for the services you’re interested in. This is done through another online form. If you’re aiming for IAS/IPS, you’ll also need to list your preferences for different zones and cadres. Again, don’t forget to submit all required documents on time, or your application could be canceled

To be eligible for different government services, you must be a citizen of India for some roles like the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, and Indian Police Service. For other positions, you can be a citizen of India, Nepal, Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, intending to settle here permanently. Additionally, individuals of Indian origin who migrated from specific countries and intend to settle in India permanently are also eligible. However, those falling under categories (b), (c), (d), and (e) need a certificate of eligibility from the Indian government. Candidates needing this certificate can still take the examination, but they can only receive a job offer after obtaining the eligibility certificate from the Indian government.

Candidates applying for the Civil Services Examination in 2024 need to meet certain medical and physical standards. These standards are outlined in the rules published in the Gazette of India Extraordinary on February 14, 2024.

The Civil Services Examination has two main parts:

Preliminary Examination: This is an objective type test meant to screen candidates for the Main Examination. The marks from this exam don’t count towards the final ranking.

Main Examination: This includes a written exam and an interview. Marks from both these parts are considered for ranking.

For the Preliminary Examination:

Candidates need to score at least 33% in General Studies Paper-II and meet certain overall qualifying marks.
There’s a negative marking for wrong answers.
For the Main Examination:

There are 9 papers, out of which 2 are qualifying in nature.
Marks from both the written exam and interview count for ranking.
Candidates who meet the minimum qualifying marks in the written exam are called for an interview.
The interview marks, along with the written exam marks, determine the final ranking.
The government encourages gender balance, so women candidates are encouraged to apply.
Candidates are allocated to different services based on their ranks and preferences.
