The North Eastern Council (NEC) has released its Internship Policy 2025 to offer valuable learning opportunities to students across India. Eligible candidates can apply online at necouncil.gov.in as per the application window guidelines.
The internship is designed for undergraduate, postgraduate, and research scholars seeking to gain practical exposure by working with NEC in Shillong. The NEC aims to promote awareness and understanding of the socio-economic and cultural dynamics of the North Eastern Region (NER) through this initiative.
Vacancies and Duration for NEC Internship 2025
The NEC Internship 2025 offers multiple positions with an intake capacity of up to 36 interns at any given point. Each vertical or division can accommodate a maximum of 3 interns, with possible relaxation upon approval.
The internship will last for a maximum of 2 months, with 1 month of mandatory in-person training at NEC, Shillong. The start dates will vary depending on academic calendars and NEC’s requirements.
NEC Internship 2025 Eligibility Criteria
Candidates fulfilling the following criteria are eligible to apply for the NEC Internship 2025:
- Undergraduate students: Must have completed/appeared for the 2nd-year exams of a bachelor’s degree program and scored at least 55% marks in Class 12.
- Postgraduate students and Research/PhD scholars: Must have completed/appeared for the 1st-year exams of their postgraduate program or be pursuing research, with at least 55% marks in graduation.
- Fresh graduates: Candidates who have completed their final exams and are awaiting admission for higher studies may also apply, provided they have secured 60% cumulative marks and the gap between result declaration and internship application does not exceed six months.
Additionally:
- 50% of seats are reserved for students from NER.
- 50% of seats are reserved for women, as far as possible.
Application Fee
There is no application fee for the NEC Internship 2025, making it accessible to a broad range of students.
How to Apply for NEC Internship 2025
Candidates can apply online through the designated portal on the NEC website. Until the portal becomes operational, hard copy applications may be submitted to the Secretary, NEC. Here’s how to apply:
- Visit necouncil.gov.in.
- Access the internship section and download the application form if required.
- Submit the following documents:
- Resume
- Statement of Purpose
- Academic Transcripts
- NOC (No Objection Certificate) from current institution
- Clearly indicate your area of interest.
- Applications must be submitted between 6 months and 1 month prior to the desired internship start month.
- Await shortlisting and interview communication from NEC.

Selection Process for NEC Internship 2025
The selection of interns will be merit-based, focusing on:
- Academic merit – 40%
- Relevance of field of study – 20%
- Interest in socio-economic development of NER – 20%
- Computer literacy – 20%
Heads of Verticals/Divisions will review applications and select candidates accordingly. Final decisions rest with the Secretary, NEC.
Internship Structure
Selected interns will be assigned to specific sectors of NEC based on their interests. Each intern will work under a mentor and will engage in:
- Assigned project work
- Field visits (if required, TA/DA will be provided)
- Participation in meetings and training sessions
- Submission of a final report on their learning experience
