Recent rankings released by the QS World University Rankings for 2026 show a positive shift, with more Indian universities securing better positions than ever before.

In the QS World University Rankings 2026, a record number of Indian universities have made it to the list. One of the biggest highlights is the rise of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, which now ranks 118th in the world, making it the highest-ranked Indian university. Indian Institutions in the Global Top 150
Besides IIT Bombay, two other IITs have also made it to the top 150 globally:
- IIT Delhi ranks 150th, up from its previous rank of 197.
- IISc Bangalore (Indian Institute of Science) ranks 211th, showing improvement in academic reputation and research impact.
These institutions have shown exceptional performance in areas such as academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, and citations per faculty.
