Jadavpur University (JU) has invited applications for the Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund (SYLFF-JU) for the 2026-27 academic session. The fellowship is designed to provide financial assistance to young researchers in the fields of Social Sciences and Humanities who demonstrate leadership potential. At least one fellowship each for MA and PhD programmes will be awarded if suitable candidates are found. An orientation workshop for prospective applicants will be held on 22nd December 2025.

JU SYLFF Fellowship Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must ensure they meet the following eligibility criteria to apply for the fellowship.

Educational Qualification & Enrollment

For MA Fellowship: Applicants must be enrolled as first-year students in the academic year 2025-26 (will complete their Masters in 2027) in eligible departments under the Faculty of Arts, School of Women’s Studies, Cognitive Science, Languages and Linguistics, International Relations and Strategic Studies, Cultural Texts and Records, Media Communication and Culture under the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, Law and Management (ISLM) of Jadavpur University.

For PhD Fellowship: Applicants must be:
a. Admitted/Registered under the departments mentioned above.
b. Have completed a Master’s degree from any faculty or interdisciplinary school of any recognized University.

JU SYLFF Fellowship Application Process 2026

The application process is completely offline. Candidates must follow the steps below:

  1. Obtain Form: The application form and recommendation sheet will be available online from November 21, 2025.
  2. Prepare Demand Draft: Prepare a demand draft of Rs. 200/- drawn in favour of “JU-SYLFF-ADMIN A/C” payable in Kolkata.
  3. Submit Hard Copy: Complete the application form in hard copy and submit it along with the demand draft and all required documents to the following address in a sealed envelope:
    Prof. Shibashis Chatterjee, SYLFF Project Director, JU-SYLFF Office, 1st floor, Dr. Biren Roy Research Laboratory, Jadavpur University, Kolkata – 700032.
  4. Submission Timings: Applications can be submitted at the SYLFF office from Monday to Friday between 11 AM and 5:30 PM (excluding University holidays). The last date for submission is January 9, 2026.

JU SYLFF Fellowship Stipend Details

The fellowship provides substantial financial support to selected candidates.

MA Fellowship: A one-year fellowship of USD 1800, disbursed monthly in Indian Rupees.

PhD Fellowship: A three-year fellowship with a total value of USD 23,400, disbursed as follows:

  • Year 1: USD 7200
  • Year 2: USD 7800
  • Year 3: USD 8400

Payment: The fellowship is paid on a monthly basis in Indian Rupees; the value is determined by the exchange rate prevailing on the date of payment.
