Candidates must fulfill the following eligibility criteria as on the crucial date (1st of the month of advertisement publication).
Educational Qualification:
- Must have passed the Intermediate examination of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (CA Intermediate) OR
- Must have passed the Intermediate examination of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (CMA Intermediate).
Exclusion: Candidates who have already undergone one year or more of training under a similar scheme in any other PSU are not eligible.

Coal India Industrial Trainee Selection Process 2025
The selection is 100% merit-based and will proceed as follows:
- Merit List Formation: A merit list will be prepared based on the percentage of marks obtained in the CA/CMA Intermediate examination (total of both groups).
- Tie-Breaker: In case of a tie in marks, the older candidate (by date of birth) will be ranked higher. If DOB is also same, higher marks in Class X will be considered.
- Reservation & Preferences: The final selection will follow Government of India reservation policy (UR, SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, PwD). Additional preference will be given to:
- Land Owners (15% reservation in selection/posting): Self, spouse, children, or lineal dependents of those whose land is acquired by CIL/subsidiaries.
- Wards of Employees (20% reservation in selection/posting): Children of current or deceased (where compassionate appointment not given) on-roll employees of CIL/subsidiaries.
- Posting Allocation: Posting will be done based on the candidate’s merit rank and the order of company preference submitted in the application.
- Waiting List: A panel of 125 additional candidates (waiting list) will also be prepared following the same reservation rules.
