The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the definitive subject-wise marks distribution for the upcoming 2026 board exams. The official notice clarifies the weightage for all assessment components, ensuring students and affiliated schools have a clear roadmap for the academic year. The marks bifurcation list outlines the maximum marks allotted for the Theory Examination, Practical Exam, Project Assessment, and Internal Assessment (IA) for every subject. It has been confirmed that the total marks for every subject will be 100.

CBSE Class 10 Marks Distribution Details

For most compulsory and academic subjects in Class 10, the distribution of marks follows a fixed pattern:

  • Theory Examination: 80 marks.
  • Internal Assessment (IA): 20 marks.

Subjects like Hindi Course-A, Urdu Course-A, Punjabi, Bengali, and various other languages adhere to the 80 marks Theory and 20 marks IA split. For some vocational subjects, the distribution may be split equally as 50 marks Theory and 50 marks Practical.

The Class 10 theory exams are scheduled to be conducted from February 17, 2026, to March 10, 2026.

CBSE Class 12 Marks Distribution Details

The marks distribution for Class 12 subjects is varied, depending on the nature of the subject:

  • 80/20 Split: For many subjects, the structure is 80 marks for the Theory Examination and 20 marks for Internal Assessment or Project Work (e.g., English Elective, Hindi Elective, History, Political Science).
  • 70/30 Split: For science subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, and certain others like Geography, the split is typically 70 marks for Theory and 30 marks for Practical Examination.
  • 60/40 Split: Some vocational and specific subjects have a 60 marks Theory and 40 marks Practical component (e.g., certain subjects like Salesmanship or Medical Diagnostics).
  • 50/50 Split: Certain subjects, such as Design, may have a 50 marks Theory and 50 marks Practical breakdown.

The Class 12 board exams will also begin on February 17, 2026, and will conclude on April 9, 2026.

The Practical Examinations, Project Assessments, and Internal Assessments for both classes will be held in schools from January 1 to February 14, 2026.
